URAKARTA: Some 300 children from different schools and workshops participated in the Child Play Festival held from Friday to Sunday at the Sriwedari Plaza in Surakarta, Central Java.
Held for the third time this year, the festival exhibited traditional children’s games and toys that are either rarely played or are on the brink of extinction.
Among the toys included jamuran, cublak-cublak suweng, sluku-sluku batok, sar-sur kulonan, sepur-sepuran, jago kate, luru-luru mundu, soyang saying and dhelikan or tangkupan.
“All of these are rarely played by children of today’s era,” festival chairman Mujiono said.
He added that the festival would also enlist the activities to make a document as part of a campaign to preserve culture.
