It’s a simple truth – a man needs a bag, and more…

If you’ve previously warmed to the idea of carrying a bag, embrace the Spring/Summer 2013 trend and upgrade your leather to foil-laminated leather as seen on the runways at Burberry and Versace.

Available in shopping tote and carrier bag versions, the angular lines prevent the metallic sheen and not-so-subtle colors (petrol blue, indigo purple, burgundy) from veering into garish. Versace’s comes in a silver not unlike the unicorn’s blood in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but the two front pockets add back-to-earth masculine angles.

Those, who are more inured to bag-carrying mode, can go for a signature Louis Vuitton briefcase in black-on-black check.

Messenger bags aren’t too much of a stretch either; why not select a stylish number from Bottega Venetta, such as the Edoardo Ebana made from light calf and crocodile fume? It’s slim enough to fit a laptop and flat-pack on a flight, while the crocodile detailing gives it the rustic, aged feel of old money.

The larger version in dark blue gingham features a shoulder strap on its side, meaning you carry the bag sideways, differentiating it from the women’s drawstring bag. Inside zippers guarantee the contents don’t tumble out while you carry your bag in this gravity-defying fashion.

A tote bag is probably your most no-frills alternative and its cavernous bowels suit occasions when you need to carry heavier loads.

Hermès rolled out a cream version in canvas with dark blue piping that is sure to be ridicule-proof. Those aspiring toward a rugged look but can’t leave the kitchen sink at home today should try a drawstring pack-sack.

Roberto Canali and Hermès offer versions in canvas with leather straps and paneling that tempers the outdoorsy look with a shot of sleek for inner-city toting.

Now that your essentials are squared away in a stylish carrier, the next checkpoint is: the bling.

Pair the Gucci Diamante Web Dog Tag Necklace in sterling silver with a V-neck shirt or a button-down that shows a bit of chest. If you’d rather leave the chain-link bracelets to the rappers, wrap and woven leather bracelets are an earthier alternative.

The John Hardy cord wrap bracelets from the Naga collection feature a clasp in the shape of — you guessed it — a dragon’s head and come in black, blue and red. For a more ethnic look and the perfect partner to a vintage band T-shirt, select a beaded bracelet from Stephen Webster with a lobster clasp.

Your feet precede every other appendage when you walk into a room: put your best foot forward. Louis Vuitton presented its Spring/Summer 2013 collection featuring models wearing deck shoes so bright-white it would have turned a dentist’s hair the same color.

But paired with roll-up shorts and cuffed trousers on the runway, the canvas footwear pulled together the casual look — the trick is to show a bit of ankle.

Louis Vuitton’s zip-up sneakers are the answer to a populace craving increasing expedience; furthermore the outsize eyelets and checkered canvas are in keeping with Spring/Summer 2013 runway trends.

For a formal summer event, the suede calf leather oxford in dusty beige is all smooth lines with an elegantly rounded toe — perfect for peeping from beneath a pair of cigarette pants favored on recent runways.
