linders University Australia conferred the degree of Doctor of the University (DUniv) to Gadjah Mada University (UGM) rector Pratikno on Wednesday.

The degree was awarded to Pratikno for his vital roles both in the university'€™s leadership and for initiating international partnerships.

The honorary doctorate was presented by Flinders University rector Stephen Gerlach during the graduation ceremony of 1,620 students at the university on Wednesday.

Flinders University deputy rector Michael Barber said the university had decided to bestow the honorary title on Pratikno as he was perceived as playing a crucial senior leadership role in the world of education in Indonesia.

Pratikno also played an important role in establishing a good relationship between UGM and Flinders University.

'€œFor these reasons, it is very proper for Professor Pratikno to receive the Doctor of the University title,'€ said Barber.

Pratikno said in a statement released by the Gadjah Mada University'€™s public relations office that he was very honored to receive the honorary title. '€œI am very thankful for the award,'€ said Pratikno.

He said the honorary degree was a recognition provided by another university for UGM, which would boost its capital in expanding its influence in international communities.

'€œThis gift is real proof that UGM supports Indonesia'€™s leadership in international communities,'€ said Pratikno, who presented a keynote speech on the vibrant growth of Asian economies during the bestowal ceremony.

Since pursuing his doctorate degree at Flinders University'€™s School of Social Sciences in 1992-1996, Pratikno has continued to maintain close relations with the university. (ebf)
