Police say they have arrested a man in Riau Islands for rape and the murders of three Indonesian migrant workers from Kerinci, Jambi.

'Evidence seized from the suspect include a short machete and a samurai sword,' Kerinci police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ismail said.

The suspect, Lombok resident Nurdan alias Jordan bin Mamik Darmasih, 40, was arrested in Tebing district in Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau Islands, by Kerinci police working with local police, Ismail said.

Nurdan, who worked as a labor broker, allegedly killed the migrant workers and raped a colleague as they readied to return home from Johor Baru, Malaysia, to Kuala Tungkal, West Tanjungjabung, Jambi, by pompong boat last week.

The slain workers were identified as Makdian, Nazar and Supardi, while the rape survivor was identified as SJ by the police. (nai/ebf)
