Nepal's interim government has announced that elections for the country's Constituent Assembly will be held on Nov. 19.
Members of the assembly were first elected in May 2008, tasked with writing a new constitution for this Himalayan nation. Its term expired earlier this year without the assembly ever agreeing on a new constitution due to squabbling among the nation's political parties.
The assembly doubles as Nepal's parliament.
The Cabinet announced the new date for the polls late Thursday. They had originally been scheduled for June but the government decided it needed more time to amend election laws.
