Nepal'€™s government sets polls for November

Nepal'€™s interim government has announced that elections for the country'€™s Constituent Assembly will be held on Nov. 19.

Members of the assembly were first elected in May 2008, tasked with writing a new constitution for this Himalayan nation. Its term expired earlier this year without the assembly ever agreeing on a new constitution due to squabbling among the nation'€™s political parties.

The assembly doubles as Nepal'€™s parliament.

The Cabinet announced the new date for the polls late Thursday. They had originally been scheduled for June but the government decided it needed more time to amend election laws.
