ewly-inaugurated Technology, Research and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir says he is committed to building world-class Indonesian researchers who can support the advancement of industry in the country.

'We have to produce much better researchers ' world-class researchers, who must be able to support the advancement of industry in Indonesia,' Nasir said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Monday.

To that end, Nasir said, the Technology, Research and Higher Education Ministry would carry out its tasks based on the blueprint of the Working Cabinet led by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.

'The blueprint is already there, but to see what it looks like, we should await directives from the President. Let's wait for the results of our [first] Cabinet meeting,' he said.

Nasir replaced Gusti Muhammad Hatta, who served as research and technology minister in former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's administration.

Nasir was born in Ngawi, East Java, on June 27, 1960. Selected to replace Sudharto P.Hadi as the rector of the University of Diponegoro (Undip) for the period of 2014-2018 on Sept.30, Nasir had yet to take his oath of office when it was announced he had been appointed as the technology, research and higher education Minister.

Nasir served as the dean of Undip's school of economics and business for the period of 2010-2014 and is a professor of economics and business at the university.
