President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo should commute the death sentences of five individuals scheduled for execution '€œas soon as possible'€ for violating drug trafficking laws, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said today.

'€œPresident Jokowi should join the global tide toward abolishing the death penalty rather than approving multiple executions,'€ HRW deputy Asia director Phelim Kine said on Thursday.

Your comments:

Pak Jokowi, I agree with your decision. Swiftly execute these people. They destroy families.

It'€™s best to move forward and get on with other more pressing things in the country.

Western organizations should stop bringing their standards to Indonesia.

You respect a country'€™s rules and laws when you make a decision to enter that country.

It works the same way if an Indonesian citizen breaks the law in that country, he or she is expected to face the law in that country.

It may sound cruel executing drug mules, but it'€™s even worse for the families of the people affected by drug users.

The death penalty is a barbaric punishment inherited from the Middle Ages.

Indonesia cannot pretend to be a democratic nation if it continues to execute drug mules.

A proportion of these drug mules have been coerced into carrying drugs for others, a proportion of them did not know exactly what they carried and some have been accused by customs or police who planted drugs in their bags.

Indonesian judges do not care about their innocence or culpability.

Death by drug use happens on a daily basis and Indonesia rightfully punishes the '€œkillers'€ with the death penalty.

Just a few days ago a person was apprehended with over 3 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Turn a blind eye to the drug cartels and there will be more deaths from drug use and sales. Indonesia doesn'€™t need to keep convicted drug smugglers in jail for life.

Drug cartels should not be considered human since they have no regard for other people'€™s lives and the death penalty is almost too humane for them.
