he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) agreed to sink ships caught carrying narcotics to Indonesia to curb rampant smuggling through Indonesian waters, said BNN spokesman Sr.Comr. Sumirat Dwiyanto on Wednesday.
He said, however, that the ships' operators would be given a fair trial before any further action was taken.
When raiding narcotic syndicates, the BNN not only confiscates the narcotics but also assets linked to the trafficking, such as land, vehicles, property and savings.
The confiscated assets are then handed over to the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to be used as evidence in trials and will later be submitted to the state coffers.
In November, officials raided 150 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at a port in Muara Karang, Jakarta. Another raid confiscated 40 kilograms of meth in Ujung Genteng, Sukabumi smuggled by two Iranians. (***)
