number of residents' groups in Bekasi, West Java, have reported telecommunication company PT Indosat to the Bekasi Police over a viral advertisement they deem 'insulting'.
The ad, titled 'Liburan ke Aussie lebih mudah dibanding ke Bekasi' (Going to Australia is easier than going to Bekasi), was offensive to Bekasi residents, the groups argued.
'We have submitted the report,' Dadang Nurmawan, representing the 11 groups initiating the motion, said as quoted by kompas.com over the weekend.
They reported Indosat for allegedly violating Article 27 of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law and Article 310 of the Criminal Code, both on defamation.
Dadan claimed the motion was driven by their pride in the city and in order to pre-empt 'other commercial products that have the potential to tarnish Bekasi's image'. (***)
