irAsia Indonesia said in a statement on Thursday that the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) had detected the location of the QZ8501 fuselage. The crashed flight was found in the second search operation zone in the Java Sea.
'Based on information from Basarnas, several photos obtained show the QZ8501 fuselage and right wing at the bottom of the Java Sea,' AirAsia Indonesia president director Sunu Widyatmoko said as quoted by Antara news agency in Surabaya on Thursday.
He said the photos were captured by an unmanned remotely operated vehicle (ROV) belonging to one of the search and rescue (SAR) vessels that was used to detect underwater objects.
'It is planned that SAR divers will be deployed to start the recovery of the QZ8501 fuselage on Thursday morning,' said Sunu.
He added Basarnas confirmed on Wednesday that it had recovered two bodies of QZ8501 victims found in the waters off Sembilan Island, located around 70 nautical miles southwest of Kota Baru, South Kalimantan.
'The two bodies were brought to Pangkalan Bun and flown to Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya for identification processes,' said Sunu.
In Surabaya, Simon Djidrovski of the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Unit, Police Forensics Sub-Directorate, Interpol was reported to have visited the AirAsia Crisis Center at the East Java Police headquarters. During his visit, Djidrovski directly supervised the AirAsia victim identification process led by the National Police's DVI team.
During the visit, Djidrovski took the opportunity to convey his appreciation to the police's DVI team that had conducted identification processes in line with Interpol's DVI procedures.
On Wednesday, the DVI team identified two more QZ8501: Jie Stephanie Gunawan and Christanto Leoma Hutama.
As of Thursday, Basarnas confirmed that it had recovered the bodies of 50 AirAsia victims. Of them, 38 of the bodies have been identified. (ebf)
