resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo announced on Friday that fuel prices would decrease as of Sunday, with Premium gasoline dropping to Rp 6,600 (52 US cents) per liter and diesel dropping to Rp 6,400 per liter.
Currently, Premium costs Rp 7,600 per liter and diesel costs Rp 7,250 per liter.
Gas prices are also to drop, with 12-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters to cost Rp 129,000 per canister. The price of state-produced cement will also be reduced by Rp 3,000 per sack.
Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil previously stated his hope that the price of commodities would decrease in line with the drop in fuel prices, so that goods could stay at market price.
'If the cost of fuel decreases then so should the price of goods. If they don't, then the market structure will be unstable,' Sofyan said on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency. (dyl/nfo)(+++)
