National Police chief candidate Comr
ational Police chief candidate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan will not answer the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) summons for questioning as a graft suspect on Friday, according to one of his lawyers.
Razman Arif Nasution said on Friday that Budi was waiting for the results of the pretrial hearing against the KPK before meeting with commission officials.
The first pretrial hearing regarding the KPK's move to name Budi a graft suspect will start on Monday at the South Jakarta District Court.
"Furthermore, Budi has not received an official letter from the KPK that names him a suspect. He found out first via the media," Razman told the press at the National Police headquarters on Friday morning.
The KPK declared Budi a suspect for financial wrongdoing after finding that in his capacity as the head of the Career Development Bureau at the National Police from 2004 to 2006 he amassed a total of Rp 95 billion (US$7 million) that he allegedly collected from bribes and gratuities, including bribes paid by officers in pursuit of higher positions in the force.
He was named a suspect before President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was able to inaugurate him.
Razman added that Budi had received the summons letter on Jan. 26, but that the person who had delivered the letter had left it at Budi's house without having anyone sign for it. (nfo)
