Indonesia's exports in 2014 settled at US$176.29 billion, missing the official target of $184.3 billion.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported on Monday that the result was attributed to a decline in non-oil and gas exports, such as coal, rubber, and paper, by 2.64 percent to $145.96 billion last year from 2013.
Similarly, imports also followed a downward trend, decreasing 4.53 percent to $178.18 billion. The softer inbound shipments were driven primarily by the lower purchase of raw materials and intermediary inputs as well as capital goods.
Overall, the trade balance in 2014 stayed in the red, registering $1.89 billion. However, the figure was an improvement compared to the $4.08 billion recorded in 2013. (nfo)
