O

ur country was established under the rule of religion. It can be proven by the five points of the state ideology of Pancasila. Every single point asserts values of religion like courtesy, unity and consultative agreement. But nowadays, the value of religion in our country is starting to fade away. Western values have invaded every aspect of our society.

In a country'€™s development, the entrance of Western values is unavoidable as in this global era every country is demanded to interact with each other and most developed countries are liberal. Democracy has become one parameter of a country'€™s development. The idea of freedom and equality is the main concern of the world nowadays.

Our government is trying to add the value of freedom and equality to our society. But the way it implements it is still not right. The policies are departing from our ideology. Our government had planned to erase the religion column on citizens'€™ identification cards, or to regulate morning prayers in state-owned schools. Separating the state from religion is distorting from our ideology.

So, our duty as Indonesians is to defend our ideology, our value of religion amid the storm of change caused by globalization. One way is to revive Pancasila in schools or formal education, like by adding subjects about nationality and Pancasila not only in theory but also in everyday practice.
