akarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama supporters united in Twitter account, @TemanAhok, on Sunday and created a petition that called on law enforcement officials to investigate alleged mark-ups and fictitious programs listed in the city budget.
'We picked a 'law enforcement' theme in as part of our support to Ahok and law enforcers to immediately take legal measures against the robbers of the city budget,' said Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok) rally coordinator, Aditiya Yogi Prabowo, as quoted by Antara on the sidelines of Car Free Day at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Jakarta on Sunday.
Yogi and other petition-initiators appealed with Jakarta residents to join them in urging law enforcement officials to investigate alleged corruption practices by signing the petition, which was written on a 3-meter-long banner.
In the rally, supporters of the governor brought a board where people could write down their aspirations. The volunteers also displayed a prison made from a cardboard box and pictures of Ahok wearing the costume of Si Pitung, a well-known Betawi legend of a figure famous for his helping the poor fight colonizers and greedy landlords. They also distributed white roses to people passing by.
'By giving these white roses, we want to show that behind Ahok's stern acts, there is sincerity,' said Yogi.
The Jakarta administration and the Jakarta City Council are involved in a prolonged budget dispute following the submission of the draft city budget, which did not bear the signature of City Council speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, to the Home Ministry. (ebf)(+++)
