Greater Jakarta: Councilors cancel plan to report Ahok to police

J

akarta city councilors have canceled their plan to report Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama to the National Police'€™s criminal investigation directorate for attempted bribery, citing '€œa lack of documents'€.

The councilors had accused Ahok and his subordinates of offering them Rp 12.7 trillion in return for not '€œtouching'€ a draft budget. The councilors said that the bribery attempt was offered in the form of programs in the draft 2015 budget, with councilors free to propose any programs they liked.

The councilors claimed they refused the bribery attempt and said they would report the incident to the police on Monday.

Deputy council speaker Abraham '€œLulung'€ Lunggana of the United Development Party (PPP) said the councilors maintained that Ahok and his subordinates had attempted to bribe them, but had decided not to report the matter .

'€œ[The administration] indeed attempted to bribe us councilors, but legally we do not have proof. So it would be a waste of time to report the matter to the police,'€ Lulung said on Monday in Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta while distributing donations to victims of a fire.

The councilors had already hired a lawyer, Razman Arif Nasution, who previously represented Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan in his graft case and former Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono in a case related to the procurement of faulty Transjakarta buses.
