Lt. Gen. (Ret) Sutiyoso (Antara)
The outgoing chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), Lt. Gen. Marciano Norman, hailed the appointment by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo of Sutiyoso as his suitable successor.
Marciano said that under Sutiyoso the institution was expected to focus on utilizing its material and human resources and on improving coordination with its international counterparts in dealing with global threats, such as radicalism.
'I think he is a suitable figure for the job. He is someone who can work dynamically and help support the government's aims and performance as optimally as possible. The strengthening of BIN's resources and coordination with our counterparts is what is needed for the next BIN leadership and I have no doubt it can be achieved under Sutiyoso,' Marciano told reporters at the House of Representatives complex on Monday.
Referring to the plan for a BIN supervisory committee, he said that its presence would be accepted positively and it would help the agency operate freely within the confines of the law. (++++)
