Calls are mounting for state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II to take firm measures against the presence of illegal taxis at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) said that passengers at the airport had complained about unauthorized taxi drivers, who often took a rude approach to getting passengers.

Your comments:

This has been a blight on Jakarta and Indonesia for decades. How is it that no one can stop them? I found out years ago that the secret is immediately upon exiting to go up one floor to departures where there are dozens of vacant Blue Birds available.

But for some strange reason, you are not allowed to board them. I have to convince one of them to take me and a driver eventually does, then races like a madman, terrified that the security guards will pull them over and bully them for money.

Why are certain taxis not allowed to pick up passengers? Well obviously because there is no money in it for the security guards; they only get a cut when one of their illegal taxi buddies shanghais some poor unknowing tourist.

This explains why the problem has been going on for decades with no solution in sight and now some are recommending '€œnegotiating'€ with the lawbreakers.

'€œDialogue'€ with '€œillegal'€ taxis at the airport! Since when is there dialogue with people who do things illegally? It is just another example of how criminals get away with everything.
