The ongoing eruption of Mount Raung in East Java had disrupted many flights to Bali and badly affected tourism on the resort island, an executive said on Tuesday.

'€œFor sure, it has impacted tourism since many tourists have cancelled their holidays to Bali,'€ chairman of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) Bali chapter, Ngurah Wijaya, told The Jakarta Post, adding that the losses had not yet been calculated.

Your comments:

Jetstar and Virgin cancelled flights beyond the airport closures.

Many passengers consequently were stranded there for some days, with some camping out at the airport.

This is indeed a devastating blow to maintain Australian tourist numbers for some time to come. It adds to the negative image created by the executions of two Australians.
