OGOR: Hundreds of Bogor residents, ranging from students to officials, joined in Istisqa, a mass prayer that asks for rain, in Sempur square, Bogor, West Java, on Friday. The prayer started at 2 p.m. and was led by the Bogor Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chief KH Adam Ibrahim and was also attended by Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto and Deputy Mayor Usmar Hariman.
'Let us use this heat as our spirit in asking Allah for rain,' Adam urged participants as quoted by Antara news agency.
The Bogor administration invited the residents to perform the prayer in response to the ongoing drought, particularly in Mulyaharja village, South Bogor sub-district, where residents have had difficulty sourcing clean ground water during the past month.
Currently, customers of Bogor's city-owned tap water company have not been significantly impacted by the drought.
