AKARTA: In a bid to improve security in the capital city, the Jakarta administration has allocated around Rp 30 billion (US$2.2 million) in grants to the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).
'Giving grants to the Indonesian Military is a tradition. It is also aimed at helping us improve security,' Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said during his visit to Kostrad headquarters in Central Jakarta on Friday.
Indonesian Army chief Lt. Gen. Mulyono said that the money would be used to buy equipment to support security efforts in the capital city.
'They [would buy] four trucks, five buses, 50 motorcycles and 900 riot police outfits,' he said, adding that his personnel were ready to help the city enforce rules and regulations.
