Greater Jakarta: Police encourage malls to install CCTV

T

ANGERANG: The Tangerang Police called on managers of shopping centers to improve security measures by installing CCTV cameras and metal detectors.

Tangerang Police chief Sr. Comr. Agus Pranoto conveyed the message during a meeting between the police and representatives of shopping malls at the Tangerang Police headquarters on Friday.

'€œWe encourage managements [of shopping malls] to improve security measures [such as] by installing CCTV cameras particularly in hidden areas,'€ he said as quoted by tribunnews.com, adding that the management should also maintain the facility well.

He also encouraged them to immediately report any suspicious activity to the local police.

Concerns over security in crowded places like malls were raised following the kidnap of young girl by an unidentified man at a shopping center in East Jakarta recently. The incident was well captured by CCTV cameras. A few days later, the girl managed to return home unharmed with the help of a taxi driver.
