ALANG: Volcanic ash from Mount Raung in Bondowoso, East Java, again forced authorities to close Abdul rachman Saleh Airport in Malang regency on Friday, cancelling 10 flights.
Airport head Suharno said the closure was based on a Notice of Airmen (Notam) that stated the volcanic ash had moved in a southwesterly direction.
'We received the notification on Thursday evening after we stopped operations. The closure will end at 4 p.m.,' Suharno said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said 10 flights scheduled to fly in and out of the airport with a total 2,600 passengers had been cancelled. 'The passengers were given options: refund, reschedule or reroute to other airports,' he added.
