overnor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama says he plans to remove South Jakarta mayor Syamsuddin Noor sometime soon.
He said he made the decision after realizing that many subdistrict leaders in South Jakarta had failed to comply with his instruction to regulate street vendors in the municipality.
'I asked [the mayor] to encourage the subdistrict leaders but they failed to comply,' he said at City Hall on Monday.
'He was not firm enough [as a leader] so [I decided] to remove him otherwise I can't improve Jakarta,' he said.
The governor also emphasized that he needed someone who could work instead of someone who was pleasant.
Recently, Ahok instructed Syamsuddin to reopen an Ahmadiyah mosque in Bukit Duri Tanjakan, Tebet, South Jakarta, that had been sealed by a local group, a task the mayor had yet to carry out.
