fter launching the new ojek (motorcycle taxi) service GrabBike in May, taxi-booking mobile application GrabTaxi has held a large-scale recruitment event for ojek drivers at Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

'€œWe are starting a large-scale recruitment drive for GrabBike drivers, our biggest one so far, with initial screenings involving up to 3,000 people,'€ said GrabTaxi Indonesia head of marketing Kiki Rizky, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The initial screening requires applicants to submit data such as their driver's license, vehicle reliability and personal background information, which then must all be confirmed by the company.

Dubbed GrabBike Kingdom, the recruitment process consists of three stages: first, background checking; then registration and distribution of smartphones and training on how to use the phones and the app; then safe-driving counseling and the distribution of GrabBike accreditation.

By 12 noon, up to 5,000 people had signed up to become GrabBike drivers during the walk-in registration session.

"We are doing this in response to the public's enthusiasm for the service," said Kiki. (nov/kes)(+++)
