The Jakarta administration will spend US$5.5 billion on high-tech, fast-drying concrete to repair roads in the capital.
The administration has signed two agreements worth $5.5 billion with cement producer Holcim Indonesia to repair roads in different parts of the city using the super material known as SpeedCrete.
Holcim spokesperson Ian R. Ferdinandus said on Friday that SpeedCrete was chosen because it dried overnight.
'Fixing roads can be done overnight, compared to ordinary concrete that can take weeks,' Ian told Antara news agency.
The first contract with Holcim is for concrete to repair 200 kilometers of Transjakarta bus lanes, while the second contract is for road maintenance in Marunda, North Jakarta; Kebon Nanas-Ahmad Yani intersection in East Jakarta; and the Jl. Pramuka-Matraman intersection, in Central Jakarta. (rad/ika)(+++)
