P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo refused to inaugurate new projects at the Senayan parliament complex in South Jakarta on Friday afternoon.

Based on the schedule circulated by the House of Representatives (DPR) secretary general, Jokowi was supposed to have signed an inscription for seven newly-built projects at the complex this afternoon.

Previously, during his speech as DPR speaker in the first plenary session for 2015-2016, Setya Novanto made a direct request to Jokowi regarding the signing of the inscription.

According to a report by kompas.com, after the plenary session in the afternoon, Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla and DPR heads walked to the newly-built museum. Journalists were not allowed to come.

Around ten minutes later, they all went outside the museum, but apparently the inscription had yet to be signed by Jokowi.

"So the president wants these projects to be cleared first, then afterwards we will talk about where this is going to," said DPR deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah as quoted by kompas.com.

"No [disappointment], it's not uncommon. And he [Jokowi] had some good comments, that we must have a modern parliament complex," Fahri added.

Since Thursday, an inscription with the name 'Joko Widowo' written on it had been prepared at the DPR museum.

Aside from the museum, other projects planned by DPR for the complex include a library, the so-called Democracy Square, an access road for guests to the DPR building, a visitor's center, a legislative study center room, new rooms for House members and experts and an integrated living and working area for House members.
