Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama
A number of civil servants, who have been recently dismissed by Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, have appealed to the State Employment Body (BKN), arguing that their dismissals were unfair.
Ahok said on Tuesday that he had dismissed 120 civil servants and was in the process of dismissing 30 others, his reasons including the staff receiving bribes or being frequently absent from work.
Head of the Jakarta City Employment Body (BKD) Agus Suradika confirmed on Wednesday that a number of dismissed civil servants had submitted their appeal documents to the BKN. 'They must appeal to the Employment Advisory Body [which comes under] the BKN,' said Agus as reported by kompas.com.
According to Agus, among those appealing their dismissals are city staff who pursued further study without the permission of their employer, the city administration, and staff who have been absent from work for more than 46 days.
Agus said that civil servants from the first of those groups were claiming that they had submitted their documents to seek study permits but that their offices did not have any records of those documents.
Ahok's dismissal of the civil servants relied on Law No. 5/2014 on state civil apparatus (ASN). If they win their appeal, the dismissed staff will be reinstated in their jobs. (bbn)
