Ilustration (Antara/Reno Esnir)
The Jakarta city administration is set to demolish 5,000 buildings that do not have valid documents, or Building Construction Permits (IMB).
'In line with the city medium development plan, we plan to demolish 5,000 buildings by 2017, meaning 1,000 buildings should be demolished each year,' said head of the City Spatial Agency Iswan Achmadi on Thursday as reported by beritajakarta.com.
He said that by Sept. 25 this year, the city administration had broken down 263 buildings ' both houses and other buildings.
The city administration demolished the buildings because they did not have IMB or because the owners turned the buildings from residences into commercial venues.
'The owners have a permit for a house, but in reality the building functions as a shop. Another case is that the permit only allows for a one-floor building, but the owner built two floors. Other buildings were demolished because they were built in designated green areas,' Iswan added.
He said many of the buildings were not totally broken down, because only parts of the buildings violated the permits; in that instance, only the violating parts of the buildings were demolished. (bbn)(++++)
