AKARTA: Starting on Friday, all occupants of rusunawa (low-cost apartments) in the capital who hold Bank DKI ATM cards can enjoy Transjakarta bus rides for free.
'All residents who occupy rusunawa built by the city administration deserve free Transjakarta services. This is based on an agreement between the Transjakarta company and the Jakarta Housing and Administrative Buildings Agency,' Transjakarta president director Antonius Steve Kosasih said on Friday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
The company, he said, was still implementing the free service manually. But later, he planned to create and operate certain systems to avoid any misuse by people who were not rusunawa residents.
'We hope that the free Transjakarta ride will benefit the rusunawa residents in the city. The city administration has fully supported this program, which has been financed by a PSO [public service obligation] fund,' Steve said.
