awmakers at the House of Representatives completed their first year in office on Thursday without much to show for their legislative performance except for passing three bills into law.
In spite of the mediocre performance, House Speaker Setya Novanto said he was satisfied with the lawmakers this year.
'In the past year the House has worked especially hard, with members of the House sacrificing all for their nation and country, and for this I give my thanks to all,' Setya told reporters at the House complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
Setya said that lawmakers had fulfilled their duties in supervising the government and in their budgeting role especially with the 2016 state budget proposal having been approved. Setya said the House would increase its efforts to cooperate with the government with the goal of improving the economy. He also vowed to push the legislative body to complete the deliberation of more bills on the priority list. 'We will fulfill the legislative function of the House so that the bills will come closer to endorsement,' he said.
The House initially set out to pass 39 priority bills this year out of the total 160 planned in the five-year National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
According to an annual performance report that the House leadership delivered on the legislative 70th anniversary in August, the House has managed to pass three priority laws: the 2015 Legislative Institution Law (MD3); the 2015 Regional Head Law, which officiates a previous regulation in lieu of law (Perppu); and the 2015 Regional Administrations Law that revises a 2014 iteration of the law.
