car collided with an electric Commuter Line train at Tanah Kusir railway crossing in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Friday causing minor injuries to the five passengers in the car.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Mohammad Iqbal said a rail crossing guard had warned the car driver about the oncoming train, which was heading to Parung Panjang, West Java, from Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. The guard had even tried to stop the car.
Iqbal said that the motorist, however, had continued driving.
'As the train could not stop immediately, it hit the car ' knocking it upside down,' Iqbal said on Friday.
He added that local residents immediately helped the car passengers and brought them to Dr Suyoto Hospital in Bintaro, South Jakarta.
Separately, Eva Chaerunisa, spokeswoman for Commuter Line operator KCJ, said that after the collision, the train could not continue its journey and had to return to the train depot because of severe damage to the train's bodywork.
