Hundreds of commuters were stuck at stations in the capital on Wednesday morning as technical issues beset one of the busiest train routes from Jakarta to Bogor in West Java.

Signaling problems between Depok in West Java and Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta affected eight stations from the line's total of 25 stops, which caused a stack-up of trains, an officer of state-owned commuter train operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) said.

According to an update posted on the official twitter account of "Info Commuter Line", @Commuterline, the problems were fixed several hours after the delay had begun, while large crowds amassed as passengers waited at the stations.

Commonly known as the Commuter Line, the train routes serve commuters in the Greater Jakarta areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, South Tangerang and Bekasi. The system has seven integrated commuter lines.

The Commuter Line is one of the busiest modes of public transportation and relied on heavily by the public as an alternative to private vehicles. (liz/bbn)(+)
