Hundreds of train passengers experienced delayed commutes in Greater Jakarta on Thursday morning after three cars of a train on its way to Pasar Senen Station from Solo, Central Java derailed.

The cars of the Senja Utama train went off the rails near Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta at around 7 a.m., disrupting commuter trains going from Bogor, West Java and Serpong in Banten to Tanah Abang Station, state-owned railway operator KAI spokeswoman Eva Chairunisa said on Thursday.

Trains usually operating from Bogor to Tanah Abang and Duri stations were only able to serve passengers until Manggarai Station, while trains serving the Serpong to Tanah Abang route could only serve passengers until Palmerah Station.

The company said that it would provide feeder busses to allow passengers to continue their trips from Manggarai to Sudirman stations while the accident was being cleared.

However, Eva said that the Solo train resumed operations at 10:55 a.m. after personnel evacuated passengers from the derailed cars.

" We hope services return to normal soon," KAI communications manager Eva Chairunisa told thejakartapost.com on Thursday.

KAI  regional operations spokesman Bambang S. Prayitno said three of the train'€™s cars derailed on its way to Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta.

"We are still looking into the cause of the incident," Bambang said adding that the company would conduct an investigation into the incident. (rin)(+)
