T

he Jakarta Police are preparing to reroute traffic around the North Jakarta District Court, which is temporarily located in the former Central Jakarta District Court building on Jl. Gajah Mada, Central Jakarta, in anticipation of possible congestion on Tuesday during Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s first blasphemy hearing.

“We are preparing for rerouting to ensure the security, safety and smoothness of traffic around the area. The rerouting will depend on the situation in the field, along with dynamics and developments on the ground," Jakarta Police traffic unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto said on Monday.

According to the police, vehicles traveling from Jl. KH Hasyim Ashari will be diverted via Alaydrus Bridge, Jl. Hayam Wuruk, Harmoni, Jl. Juanda, Jl. Pasar Baru and Jl. Gunung Sahari or to Jl. Kyai Tapa, Jl. KH Hasyim Ashari and Grogol.

Vehicles heading from Jl. Majapahit, Jl. Suryopranoto and Jl. Veteran Raya to Jl. Gajah Mada will be rerouted to Jl. Juanda, Pasar Baru and Jl. Gunung Sahari.

Budiyanto added that traffic on narrow streets around the court would also be diverted.

Eighty-six traffic police officers will be deployed across Central Jakarta on Tuesday. The police have also prepared extra parking spaces around the court, including in the front yard of the former Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office building, in front of the Jakarta fruit market and Menara Tower and several others places along Jl. Gajah Mada. (ebf)
