resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s working visit to Tondano, Minahasa, North Sulawesi, on Tuesday, has drawn praise and optimism about more rapid development across various sectors in the region.
Minahasa regent Jantje Wowiling Sajow said he was grateful for President Jokowi’s visit to Minahasa, which has been appointed to host the 2016 National Christmas celebration.
“It’s an important moment for the Minahasa people because they have been trusted to host this national event,” Jantje said.
“At least there is a pride in us. Minahasa is quite far from the capital city [Jakarta] but with his humbleness, Pak Jokowi is willing to come here. Not only me, all Minahasa residents are proud about the visit of their President.”
Jantje said Jokowi’s visit to Minahasa would raise the Minahasa people’s spirit to work harder both to develop their city and to maintain their long-standing religious tolerance.
Jokowi is scheduled to attend the 2016 National Christmas celebration, which will be held at Wale Ne Tou Building in Tondano, Minahasa, at 4 p.m. local time. Several Cabinet ministers, Indonesian Military commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, and North Sulawesi governor Olly Dondokambey will also be present.
Minahasa Police chief Adj.Sr.Comr. Syamsubair assured the public that the Christmas celebration would be safe and harmonious, saying police and military personnel have been readied to secure the event.
Before attending the Christmas celebration, President Jokowi is scheduled to inaugurate geothermal-fueled power plant PLTP Lahendong, owned by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a subsidiary of state oil and gas company Pertamina, in Tompaso, Minahasa. (ebf)
