A

gas pipe in front of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) headquarters on Jl. MT Haryono, East Jakarta has been ruptured by drilling at the light rapid transit (LRT) project in the area.

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that the incident occurred at around 8.41 p.m. No casualties were reported; however, Jl. MT Haryono was closed for nearly three hours.

State-owned gas company Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) corporate secretary Rachmat Hutama said the accident affected their customers in Bidara Cina low-cost apartments (rusunawa) in East Jakarta and in the Kalibata area of South Jakarta.

To anticipate the termination of gas supply to some of its customers, PGN has applied an open-close valve scheme.

“The aim is to prevent gas leaks and to have fewer customers affected by this temporary gas distribution termination,” Rachmat said in a statement.
