T

he West Java administration has set the 2019 minimum wage for Depok (UMK) at Rp 3.8 million (US$261) per month, as stipulated in Gubernatorial Decree No. 561/2018 signed on Wednesday.

Depok Manpower Agency head Diah Sadiah said most regions in West Java increased their minimum wages by about 8.03 percent.

The UMK in Depok for 2018 is Rp 3.58 million.

"Business owners shall comply with the regulation and pay the minimum salary of Rp 3.8 million according to the gubernatorial decree," Diah said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

The determined UMK is lower than the workers associations' expectations.

The head of the Depok chapter of the Indonesian Metal Workers Federation (FSPMI), Wido Pratikno, said workers expected an increased UMK of Rp 4.4 million to improve their purchasing power. (cal)
