Increasing exports in the name of economic recovery

T

he customs agency is striving to facilitate several industries to quicken the pace of economic recovery. This effort is manifested through the granting of permits for bonded zone facilities, which are believed to have economic impacts, such as employment and the creation of new economic nodes that become the driving force of the real sector economy.

"A bonded area is a storage area to store imported goods or goods originating from other places within the customs area to be processed or combined before being exported or imported for use,” explained head of the sub-directorate of public relations and customs counseling, Hatta Wardhana. “By utilizing this facility, business actors will obtain fiscal and non-fiscal benefits, including deferment of payment of import duties, exemption from import tax collection and acceleration of the release of imported goods from ports."

Hatta said that this strategy is one of the government efforts to increase investments and exports. In April 2022, two regional offices of customs, in East Java, have granted bonded area permits to two companies in their service areas. East Java I Customs Regional Office granted the privilege to PT Roxy Music, a guitar production company, while East Java II Customs Regional Office granted extended the permit to PT Camino Industrial Indonesia, a toy manufacturer.

“We hope the company can maintain its commitment to comply with the provisions laid down; and hopefully, with the facilities provided, the company can develop and absorb more workers," said Hatta about the collaboration with PT Roxy Music.

Speaking to PT Camino Industrial Indonesia, Hatta also reiterated that the customs office is also ready to help in the implementation of the areas, so that the fiscal facility can make a positive economic impact on the local community around the company. He hopes that the areas will create a multiplier effect for the local economy by creating employment, promoting the growth of MSMEs around the area, increasing local revenue and increasing export value, which will contribute to the country's foreign exchange as a form of national economic recovery.

"It is hoped that the facilities provided can help the company's cash flow, be useful for the recovery of the national economy and that the two companies receiving these facilities can use them well and not abuse them," he concluded.
