Customs office unveils new facility to improve logistics

A

s a strategy to encourage the development of domestic businesses, the Customs and Excise Office is issuing permits for bonded logistics center (PLB) to local businesses believed capable of pioneering improvements in the national logistics system.

"Through the provision of the PLB facility, Customs and Excise continues to make breakthroughs in order to meet the needs of business actors expected to reduce logistics and transportation costs as well as support the growth of domestic industries, increase foreign and local investment and help realize Indonesia's dream of developing a national logistics hub and becoming a logistics hub in the Asia-Pacific region," said Jakarta Customs Office head Rusman Hadi.

PT Catur Kusumayuda Logistik has been operating warehousing and container stripping services since 2021. It also provides break bulk shipping services in the mining sector.

"The licensing process did not take long, only one hour after the company’s [ed] on May 12, 2022,” Rusman said as he granted the PLB to Catur Kusumayuda Logistik.

“This is in line with the function of the Customs and Excise Office, which is to encourage the domestic economy through the provision of customs facilities,” he said, adding that at least five companies would be granted the new facility.

"Some of the benefits the company will gain include suspension of import duties, taxes and permits, and a period of more than three years for storing goods. We really hope that recipients of the [PLB] facility will use it optimally while continuing to maintain compliance with the existing customs regulations,” Rusman said.

Rusman reiterated that the Customs and Excise Office would always support the government’s effort to improve the national logistics system by providing customs facilities, collaborating well with all stakeholders and maintaining its commitment to providing the best services through digital transformation to create a more integrated and efficient logistics ecosystem.
