Customs and Excise supports Formula E in Jakarta with facilities, services

fter the World SuperBike (WSBK) and MotoGP Mandalika, Indonesia once again hosts an international racing event with the upcoming Formula E.

Officially known as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Formula E is a single-seat car racing championship using electric-powered cars. The championship was first conceived in 2011 by International Automobile Federation presidents Jean Todt and Alejandro Agag, who are also the founders and chief executives of Formula E Holdings.

The first official race was held in Beijing in September 2014, and was officially awarded the status of a world championship in 2020.

For the first time ever, Formula E will be held in Indonesia, with 22 international drivers set to speed around the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Saturday, June 4. As the ninth series on the Formula E calendar this season, it is the only international green sportainment event that has been held in Indonesia to date.

Ahead of the Jakarta E-Prix 2022, the Customs and Excise Agency is playing a major role in facilitating the import of goods for the event. This is a manifestation of the function of the Customs and Excise trade facilitator in advancing Indonesian trade, industry and tourism.

Customs and Excise director of communications and guidance for service users Nirwala Dwi Heryanto said Customs and Excise was ready to provide full support for the implementation of the Jakarta E-Prix 2022 with various services and facilities, ranging from cargo handling and temporary import supporting documents with the ATA Carnet scheme, to stockpiling and inspection outside the customs area.

"All import shipments for Formula E have received ATA Carnet facilities, and physical inspections were not carried out at the cargo warehouse but rather at the stockpile location at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), which we carried out from May 23 to 25,” he explained, adding that Customs and Excise possessed the authority to inspect the goods while being accompanied and witnessed by the attorney or owner of the goods.

According to Nirwala, the implementation of the 2022 Jakarta E-Prix was also proof that Indonesia was ready to host various large international-scale events. He also emphasized the readiness of Customs and Excise to support Indonesia’s readiness as host.

“We are consistently ready to support and provide various facilities for the implementation of various international events. Hopefully, this event will serve as an opportunity for many sectors of the Indonesian economy, as well as a signal to the world that Indonesia has recovered.”

The Indonesian government also continues to make strategic efforts through coordination with the relevant ministries and institutions involved in the event.

But the community is also needed to play its role in creating a safe and friendly image for Indonesia so as to increase the interest of foreign tourists.

"With the rise in tourism and the confidence of the international community in Indonesia, various other elements such as MSMEs [micro, small and medium sized enterprises] and creative economic activities in Indonesia will feel the positive impact. Of course, this can contribute to supporting the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program. Let's together make the Jakarta E-Prix 2022 a success!” Nirwala concluded.
