The Customs and Excise agency has signed a cooperation agreement with the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel) and the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus).
he Customs and Excise agency has signed a cooperation agreement with the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel) and the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). The signing was attended by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin.
The new cooperation is a follow-up to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) No. PRJ-8/MK.01/2020 and No. 186/2020, signed back in September 2020 between the Finance Ministry and the Attorney General's Office (AGO) regarding coordination in the implementation of duties and functions.
"The signing of this cooperation agreement is very important to support, maintain and synergize two very important tasks in this republic, namely the task of maintaining state finances and the task of law enforcement. The cooperation agreement between Customs and Excise and Jamintel and Jampidsus will be very helpful in carrying out the duties of Customs and Excise officers in the field dealing with many economic actors and in enforcing legislation in the field of customs and excise," said the Finance Minister on Thursday.
She said the cooperation was in line with the responsibility that is bestowed upon Customs and Excise to prevent crimes, such as money laundering.
The cooperation agreement will champion better communication and collaboration between Customs and Jamintel in order to harmonize and optimize the implementation of intelligence tasks and functions. The scope of this cooperation agreement includes the exchange and utilization of data and information for intelligence activities; tracing the assets of crime originating from customs and excise abuse; joint intelligence activities and operations; customs crime prevention activities; and more. Furthermore, the two agencies will also collaborate in resource development, publications and support for personnel, facilities and infrastructure.
Meanwhile the cooperation between Customs and Jampidsus will cover criminal acts in the field of customs, excise and money-laundering offenses. The partnership is aimed at accelerating the process of criminal investigation, prosecution and implementation of court decisions that have permanent legal force in criminal cases in the fields of customs, excise and money laundering.
Through this agreement, Customs and Excise and the AGO will also coordinate in the handling and settlement of evidence, the exchange and utilization of data and information, the development and improvement of human resources, policy alignment and dissemination of understanding, and managing public complaints.
Sri Mulyani expressed her hope that the agreement would foster the synergy and collaboration among the Finance Ministry, Customs and Excise and the AGO, to work closely and lay concrete steps and take actions at the operational level to support the implementation of each institution's duties and function.
