T. Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI is proactive in expanding its international business after the success of its branch in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. BNI is able to develop the diaspora community and assist the growth of its businesses to become more sustainable.
Meanwhile, the company is assisting the development of a Padang restaurant called Warung Makan Lapek, which is managed by Uni Suprapti Tanjung, a native of Nareh Pasir Baru, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra. Uni Suprapti is a customer of BNI's diaspora development program.
During a visit, House of Representatives Commission V member Andre Rosiade expressed his appreciation for the diaspora development program in the Hague. According to him, BNI can be seen as aggressive because it immediately expands after its network office permit is approved.
He stressed that the program can open up opportunities for Indonesian businesses to go international, as well as attract tourists from the Netherlands to visit Indonesia.
"The collaboration of the Indonesian diaspora with BNI as a state-owned company in increasing Indonesian products for sale to the international market must be fully supported and appreciated," he said.
Andre also revealed that Uni Suprapti has been a resident of the Netherlands for 20 years and has worked in his culinary business for 10 years. This small business owner opened a restaurant two and a half years ago and has a turnover of 60,000 euros per month.
"When I spoke with him, Uni Suprapti plans to develop a new, bigger restaurant with the support of an Indonesian government program through the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry with the BNI Diaspora Go Global Program. And we must appreciate and support this," said Andre.
On another occasion, the general manager of BNI London Roekma Hari Adji said that Uni Suprapti was just one of BNI’s customers who is successful in promoting Indonesian culture and business abroad.
"As a global bank from Indonesia, we directly carry out the task of assisting the business development of the diaspora in the Netherlands, including the culinary business of the Padang restaurant owned by Uni Suprapti," he said.
Adji said that BNI was the Indonesia-based bank with the biggest international network, having a presence in six countries namely Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, New York, and Seoul, in addition to its network in Amsterdam. The diaspora in the Netherlands is currently estimated around 1.7 million people.
The Indonesian diaspora in the Netherlands has tremendous potential for Indonesia, because it can be a source of strength for the Indonesian economy, including the large number of remittances sent to Indonesia.
"The Netherlands itself has a very large appeal and business potential, this is the background for BNI to add overseas networks in potential countries, where Amsterdam is one of the Europe’s economic centers and international trade routes," he added.
