T Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) played a role in the 2022 Imported Goods Fair (IGF) on June 23-25 at Coex Seoul. In the exhibition held by the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), BNI garnered praise for its active contribution to supporting the development of Indonesian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).
The event helped the MSMEs secure potential orders worth US$546,000 in the food and beverage (F&B) category. The figure is expected to increase as businesses were still in the negotiation stage with potential buyers.
Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of South Korea Gandi Sulistiyanto revealed that the Indonesian pavilion featured five F&B businesses and 19 MSME partners under BNI’s assistance through the Xpora program. Showcased at the pavilion were best-selling products such as wooden decorations, silver jewelry, pearls, cosmetics, coffee and other food products.
“Of course, this is a positive effort to support the sustainability of MSMEs to realize the growth potential in South Korea,” the ambassador said.
During the event, supported by the Trade Ministry and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, six entrepreneurs entered online business matching with Korean importers. Gandi further said that one of them was the largest retail company in Korea.
In this event, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was also signed between BNI and KOIMA. It was conducted by BNI consumer business director Corina Leyla Karnalies and KOIMA executive vice chairman Kim Young-sun. The MOU entailed cooperation in business matching and information exchange in relation to Indonesian exporters and South Korean importers.
Corina said South Korea had a large market potential for Indonesian MSME products,
considering that 82 percent of South Koreans live in urban areas and have the longest life expectancy.
She said the collaboration between BNI, KOIMA and the Trade Ministry at IGF 2022 had directly impacted Xpora customers. BNI has started to receive requests from KOIMA members for business matching schedules during the exhibition.
“It’s an effort to open investment opportunities abroad, providing more job opportunities for Indonesians, as well as encouraging domestic MSMEs to venture into the international market. At the same time, BNI wants to attract more potential investors from abroad. We also provide capital for diaspora MSMEs,” she concluded.
In the January-May period, BNI recorded a tremendous growth of 30.62 percent in export volume. The company has made plans with the Indonesian Embassy in South Korea and the Trade Ministry to continue exploring the market potential in South Korea, which includes encouraging collaboration with the Indonesian diaspora.
