InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah introduces new wagyu dining experience

A

iming to keep providing Jakarta’s affluent foodies with extraordinary dining experiences, InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah has come up with a new and exclusive dining event at their signature restaurant Sugar & Spice.

Every Thursday night, Sugar & Spice treats the capital’s meat lovers to a new cutting edge of the wagyu dining experience.

An elite staple of gourmet food connoisseurs everywhere, wagyu beef has been on the block for a long time.  Wagyu is the result of hundreds of years of crossbreeding between native Japanese cattle with foreign cattle from other Asian and European countries since the Meiji period in the late 1800s.

In the present day, four cattle breeds are considered wagyu: the Japanese black; Japanese brown, also known as red wagyu in the United States; Japanese polled; and Japanese shorthorn.

Being an important commodity, wagyu products are traded using brands. The most elite brands are called sandai wagyu, which come from the Tajima strain of Japanese black. The best known of these are Kobe, Matsusaka and Ōmi beef.

However, not all wagyu are considered equal. These beef cuts are rigorously graded at all times by trained experts using highly regulated measurement standards to make sure that only the best beef marbles are traded properly.

InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah’s award-winning food and beverages (F&B) team has sourced the world’s best cuts of wagyu beef, making the exquisite beef marbles the main subject of their culinary creativity.

Diners can expect a new level of mind-blowing taste explosions from dishes such as sate wagyu maranggi, wagyu aburi, Tajima wagyu striploin and braised wagyu beef shank. Additionally, a selection of carefully curated premium wines will also be available to pair with these superb meat-based works of art.

This exclusive, high-quality meat feast takes place every Thursday at Sugar & Spice from 6 p.m. onward, with prices starting from Rp 498,000++ (US$33.22) per person.
