T

he Ascott limited (Ascott), member of CapitaLand Investments has appointed Charles Lee Abbott or better known as Chuck Abbott as Regional General Manager for Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Philippines. An American national with extensive experience in hospitality in America, East and Southeast Asia, started his career as operations manager at The Westin Kauai at Kauai Lagoons, United States. He graduated with a hospitality degree from Michigan University and was passionate about the hospitality industry for over 40 years, bringing him to his current position in The Ascott Limited (Ascott) as The Regional General Manager. He managed 150 properties in operation with more than 25,000 units and more than 140 properties under development slated to open within the next two years.

Chuck is happy to join Ascott as one of the largest international owners and operators of serviced residences across over 30 countries and be placed in Indonesia as Ascott’s second-largest market after China and the largest in Southeast Asia. While carrying out his duties, Chuck enjoys working with people, developing, and growing in a fun way. He likes hospitality because he can deal with people that are always excited and passionate. It also allowed him to travel around the world, to see a lot of different things and a lot of diverse cultures.

One of the things that Chuck likes to do is to coach and develop the employees so they can grow from within. That's always a critical component for him to ensure that the company takes care of its people and that they feel good about the company and can grow with it. He describes his leadership as collaborative, passionate, and fun. He likes to develop people, and one of his responsibilities as a leader is to grow the next generation by sharing his experiences, so they can learn what they think is best for the future.

Looking forward to the future of Ascott's Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Philippines, Chuck will keep continuing the properties to grow big with another brand globally. "Ascott just recently acquired Oakwood to be part of its brand means Ascott's growing big with more brands. Now we have more brands expanding in the service residence, and also from the hotel side, we still have opportunities to grow in almost any city with HARRIS, FOX, YELLO, and POP! Brands", he said.

He has strong optimism about existing and upcoming properties in Indonesia. Chuck added, "In Indonesia, we have extensive lodging products, ranging from economy to upper-upscale hotels and serviced residences. We can also meet the demands of our discerning guests, from corporate and leisure travelers to tech-savvy travelers, families, single-travelers, and value-conscious travelers."

Chuck believes that service is always a vital component to make sure that we stand out when the customers stay with Ascott, whether they're staying for a short period or an extended period. The idea is to try personalizing that service and ensure that they feel like this is their home while away from home.

A simple quote from Mr. Chuck that motivates him in his life and career, “My job is to make everyone else's job easier. Remove barriers, so people can do theirs and take care of our business. Take care of your people and they will take care of your business. As you move up you need to let go more. Empower and trust your team and they will do the right thing. Always grow your local talent, mentor and coach people so they can replace you”.
