he Selangor International Expo (SIE F&B) is back with its 8th edition as a platform to showcase the diversity and growth of the food & beverage industry to boost business visibility and exchange latest updates and fresh ideas among key players in the industry.
SIE F&B is just a part of the bigger event that is known as the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), which is set to run for four days, starting from Oct. 6 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). The summit is hosted by the Selangor State Government and organized by Invest Selangor Berhad.
This year’s SIE F&B will carry the theme Inspire F&B Business Beyond, as stakeholders look to the future as the pandemic begins to subside. With a total of 488 booths, an increase from 192 booths last year, the event is expected to be the biggest expo for the industry this year and provides a platform that is dedicated to introducing new ideas and industry players to the world.
“SIBS can be the key global-trading-hub initiative by Selangor to assist not only exporters and manufacturers from Selangor but also from other states and regional players to restart their business in the region,” said Dato Hasan Azhari, CEO and co-founder of Invest Selangor Berhad.
For a while now, the summit has been a platform for ASEAN and international companies to converge, especially for foreign investments who are looking to tap into the Asian market via Malaysia. Rosiyati Mustafar, founder of TJ Delight, told Selangor Journal Monthly that the platform offers local entrepreneurs a chance to enter the foreign market.
“This year will be our fourth participation in SIE F&B. At past events, many local buyers got to know our products and bought them to be sold in their stores and outlets. Even the walk-in sales from visitors during the events were very high,” said Fyllo’s managing director, A. Tiruselvan, in July. Fyllo (M) Sdn Bhd, or Fyllo for short, is a local Malaysian brand that sells oil-palm-leaf tea. He also told the journal that he is looking to expand his business by debuting three new beverages and food products at this year’s event.
More than an event to debut new ideas and creations, visitors will also be able to test new food technology and network with industry players, celebrity chefs, local start-ups and more. Only this year, the event is more special than ever as Invest Selangor Berhad is offering both physical and virtual platform for greater exposure for brands and industry players alike.
Alongside the event is also the 4th Selangor International Culinary Festival, another affair that will be the major feature of the exhibition, where prominent industry practitioners will converge, network and compete healthily toward excellence.
The festival is jointly organized with Professional Culinary Association (PCA) featuring the culinary competition, including a master class in gastronomy and a forum with Malaysian chefs.
Last year, the event was able to garner enough recognition, attended by 25,410 visitors, ranging from business owners, importers, wholesalers and distributors to retailers and members of the public. SIBS 2021 recorded countless potential negotiations between businesses that are valued at approximately US$4.9 million.
