resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo gave out business registration numbers (NIBs) to 171 customers of PNM at the GOR Toware stadium in Jayapura, Papua, on Wednesday.
At the event, NIBs were issued for 2,700 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well. President Jokowi said MSMEs contributed greatly to the national economy. However, he noted, only a few had NIBs.
"We know that 61 percent of the gross domestic product […] is driven by MSMEs. Almost 97 percent of workers [are employed by MSMEs] and employment is also due to the contribution of our MSMEs, which amount to some 64 million [enterprises]. However, the Investment Minister has said that those who have NIBs, which has been encouraged by the Investment Ministry, are only 1.8 million," said President Jokowi.
Furthermore, President Jokowi explained that NIBs could allow MSMEs to access more robust banking services. He also advised entrepreneurs to utilize the MSME People's Business Credit (KUR) available at banks, a subsidized program for MSMEs to accelerate national development. However, he also reminded business actors to be cautious and calculate in detail before they took out loans from banks.
In his closing remarks, the President showed his appreciation to PNM and other stakeholders that had encouraged Indonesian MSMEs to improve.
“I would like to thank the investment minister, PNM and all financial institutions. Because entrepreneurs in Jayapura have already received an NIB, they can provide opportunities for MSMEs in Papua to enter the financial system, our banking system," said President Jokowi.
As of Monday, PNM had disbursed Rp 137.77 trillion in financing to PNM Mekaar customers, totaling 12.5 million customers. Currently, PNM has 3,500 PNM Mekaar service offices and 624 PNM ULaMM service offices throughout Indonesia, serving MSMEs in 34 provinces, 443 regencies and cities and 5,640 subdistricts.
