"The T20 [Think20] is well placed to offer fresh ideas on how countries can cooperate beyond narrow self-interest,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at the Think20 Summit, which took place from Sept. 4 to 6 2022.
The Think20 Summit discussed the latest research-based policy recommendations and matters of global importance, chiefly regarding the three main priorities of Indonesia’s G20 presidency: global health architecture, digital transformation and energy transition.
At the summit, Think20 discussed the best avenues to find key innovative and inclusive solutions for emerging global challenges, like climate investment and financing, the digital divide and securing data privacy, global value chains, as well as energy sustainability and the green transition. In one of the panel discussions, Dr. Yayan Ganda Hayat Mulyana, head of the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered his keynote speech by highlighting that improving the quality of life of people in cities could be accomplished by implementing smart cities. Also, he stressed the importance of upholding the principle of inclusivity while improving digital literacy, the digital economy and digital safety to achieve an impartial digital transformation.
Prominent figures joined the discussion at the Think20 Summit, including Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Deputy Trade Minister Jerry Sambuaga, Deputy Finance Minister Wempi Saputra, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, as well as the lead co-chairs of T20 Indonesia, Prof. Bambang Brodjonegoro and Prof. Djisman Simandjuntak.
The meeting successfully adopted and launched the Think20 Communiqué, which underlined the need to foster recovery and resilience, make the economy more inclusive and people-centered and tackle the threat of climate change with sustainable and just efforts. There were also further calls for more developing country representation in the G20, one of the world’s premier multilateral economic forums.
The Think20 Summit was held after the T20 Inception Conference in February 2022 and a series of conference and webinars throughout 2022, including the Global Solutions Summit in March 2022, the Global Dialogue in April 2022 and the Global Policy Forum in June 2022.
