he International Tourism Leaders’ Summit 2022 (ITLS 2022) started today (26/09/2022) at the Ksirarnawa Art Centre in Bali, with the theme “Rethinking, Redefining and Reshaping Tourism: From Stability to Sustainability”.
The two-day event was organized by the Indonesian Hotel General Manager Association (IHGMA) Bali regional board of directors (DPD Bali) to commemorate this year’s World Tourism Day. It was held in hybrid form to offer a greater opportunity to all participants in exchanging their views and ideas. Meanwhile, the attendees were treated to 24 speakers from diverse backgrounds, each a leading actor in the hospitality industry with years of experience under their belt.
“This event will act as a repository of diversified paradigm and opinions for a sustainable tourism development,” said Komang Artana, the ITLS 2022 committee chairman.
The tourism industry is among the sectors that were hit severely by the pandemic, especially the industry of a popular destination like the resort island of Bali. The acting head of IHGMA DPD Bali, Dr. Yoga Iswara, BBA, BBM, MM, CHA, believes that the experience offered a big lesson for many hospitality leaders, especially in places where tourism is vital to the local economy.
“As a result of this phenomenon, they have learned that the pandemic [offered] a moment to redevelop the concept of the hospitality business. It should have a clear concept, technique and appropriate implementation to benefit the next generation. Being sustainable is the key,” said Yoga.
His message was echoes by Milka Sitorus, IHGMA DPD Bali’s public relations head, who highlighted several topics of interest at the event.
“First, we would like to outline the concept, definition and implementation of a new tourism archetype. Second, we want to embody our commitment to provide sustainable tourism by harmonizing the profits-people-planet mindset on a daily basis. Lastly, we [wish] to socialize a new tourism attitude that is more prudent, judicious, and constructive for all generations.”
